On
her new album “Solo Flight 404,” LaTocha Scott takes her fans on a very
personal journey. For the first time, the multi-platinum selling artist
and former member of the chart topping group Xscape has written all the
material on this project, a joint venture between Rock City
Entertainment and TC Payton’s Atlanta based Raw Deal Records. LaTocha
notes, “The tracks on this album are coming from within. My creative
side is flowin’ right now and I’m happy with the end result.” The 404
was borrowed from her town’s area code -- College Park, Georgia and as
this trip is Scott’s first solo, she says, “I want to take ‘em on a ride
with me… on my flight.”
Produced by the ATL’s own Doc and
Detroit’s Marcus Devine, LaTocha’s friend, Latoya Weeks – a.k.a. Purple
Heart assisted as co-writer on some tracks. Scott noted, “I dubbed my
crew the Rock City All-Stars. They all brought something special to the
party.”
LaTocha adds, “This is a slice of
life album. It features inspirational songs for women and taps into the
minds of men without male bashing or being too raunchy. I think it has
something everybody can relate to.”
Favorite tracks include “Thank
You,” which LaTocha says she wrote for all the people who have inspired
her and talks about friends, family and fans. “Fantasy” is intimate,
sensual and personal. LaTocha notes, “I want to take you places. If
you’re open and tell me what’s going on in your mind, I can take you
there.” While “Believe” has a universal message – “whatever you set your
mind to, you can do, as long as you believe,” “Tonight” a summer song
with a nice vibe.
In addition to her busy recording
and touring schedule, one of LaTocha’s favorite activities is
cultivating her “Life Goes On” Foundation, giving back to the community.
With Solo Flight 404, LaTocha clearly is spreading her wings and
expanding her horizons.
Having recorded
her first track at the age of eleven, she joined forces with her sister
and two childhood friends in 1992 to form the soon-to-be 4x multi
platinum group XSCAPE. Their 1993 debut album, Hummin’ Comin’ at Cha,
went platinum-plus and spawned the hit singles “Just Kickin’ It,”
“Understanding,” “Tonight,” and “Love On My Mind.” The explosive
sophomore album, Off the Hook, released in 1995, also gained
platinum-plus status, while establishing three gold hits – “Feel So
Good,” “Who Can I Run To?” and “Do You Want To?” Their third release in
1998, Traces of My Lipstick, featured the hit singles “The Arms
Of the One Who Loves You” and “My Little Secret.” Since leaving XSCAPE
in late 1998, LaTocha has collaborated on a number of projects including
the duet “One Night Stand” with new artist J-Shin, and co-writing the
certified platinum single “My Little Secret” with Jermaine Dupri, for
which the pair won an ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Award. LaTocha has also
scored a gold single with her interpretation of Diane Warren’s “Run to
the Arms.” Confirming her appeal as a solo artist, LaTocha had a hit
with the single “Liar Liar” from The Best Man soundtrack, and had
more hits with two songs from the Big Momma’s House soundtrack:
“Bounce With Me,” a duet with Lil’ Bow Wow; and “Treated Like Her,”
which LaTocha co-wrote and sang with Chante Moore. LaTocha has worked
hard to write and perform hit songs like “We Stand As One,” the
enchanting song featured on the Pope Project Compilation and
“Thug Holiday” which she co-wrote with Trick Daddy.
